WINTER TOUR - Hot Natural Mineral Spa and Troyan Monastery

*Troyan monastery has some of Bulgaria's most interesting internal and external frescos depicting nineteenth century religious art. Some of the scenes show sinners of various kinds being poked and prodded and figures beings pulled into the flames of hell. The icon of the 'three handed virgin' inside who appears to be embracing the infant Jesus with more than two arms is believed to have the power to cure ailments and grant wishes.

In the living quarters of the monastery is the 'hiding place museum' set up when Vasil Levski encouraged monks to start of the revolutionary underground in Troyan. The patriot supposedly hid in this room when agents of the sultan came calling.

This beautiful monastery is in a wonderful setting. As a very popular location it has its own little shops selling traditional Bulgarian souvenirs for your enjoyment.

From here to the mineral spa - here you will bathe in a mineral pool pumped with water that is as hot as your bath. This really is a treat and you will certainly feel relaxed. It is most enjoyable when the weather is at its coldest - imagine soaking in the hot therapeutic water while steam rises and snow is on the ground.

The spa is in the grounds of a hotel and refreshments are available in the restaurant.

Please be cautious if you have any medical conditions that may be affected by the hot water and changes in temperature.
